Spider Lily

Lycoris radiata - red spider lily

These beautiful flowers impress me every fall with their color, prehistoric appearance and perseverance. They pop up in very unlikely places throughout our old homestead. The horses and dogs trample them but their leaves will appear next spring and the flowers will surprise me once again in September.

hi ann,
my friend melissa and i met you at ocaf... we chatted with you for a while and came back on sun to pick up the candles we picked out on sat... i was looking at your blog and saw these great flowers.... i've loved them for years and no one seemed to know what they're official name was... my mother, who's very garden-savy, said she had always heard them called "naked ladies"! or as we southerners say; neked ladies.... i'm excited every year when i see them and have always fantasized about digging some up from someone's yard (who i'm sure wouldn't appreciate them as much as i do...) but i just can't do that.... well, i love my candle and melissa loves hers and we hope to see you again someday.....
